About Me

Hello. My name is Prahasith Veluvolu, but most people call me Prah. I'm the former founder of Mimir, an ed-tech startup that helped hundreds of universities, high schools, and companies (like Google) teach and automate computer science courses. In December 2019, HackerRank acquired Mimir. I worked with HackerRank for four years in a product role where I started with building new products and then was tasked to build a new team to address critical gaps in the existing product. I took some time off after leaving HackerRank and now I've started my new adventure.

Outside of work, I'm a former Big 10 rugby player and fencing junior olympic qualifier. These days, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, cooking (creating a fusion of western and eastern dishes), traveling globally, playing and trying to code video games.

Professional Timeline
Dec, 2023 - May 2024
"Sabbatical"

● I took some time off after leaving HackerRank to focus on family, friends, and traveling after the conclusion of the Mimir journey.

Dec, 2019 - Dec, 2023
Product - HackerRank

● Joined HackerRank through the Mimir acquisition and reported directly to the Chief Product Officer. Led a global cross-functional team and eight engineers to build a new sourcing product and grow the HackerRank community. Connected over 100,000 skill-verified developers globally to HackerRank customers.

● Continued to manage all aspects of Mimir Classroom and grew it 50% YoY until 2023 when it was sunset and incorporated into the HackerRank community.

● In response to the pandemic, launched a series of skill-driven virtual career fairs. The first event featured ~50 unique live events, resulting in close to 25,000 job applications for HackerRank customers while exceeding candidate diversity goals.

● Built a new “Admin” team in 2022 to address key problems in the core HackerRank product. Started with rebuilding resource access and sharing from scratch, which reduced support tickets in the category by 40%. As a cross product initiative, this required coordination with all product pods within HackerRank. The Admin team the only product team tasked to run cross product changes.

● Led the Admin team, with executive team coordination, to rebuild pricing, packaging, and licensing infrastructure to catch up to our current P&P model and allow for quick changes through an internal tool. This reduced in-product P&P changes from a multi-quarter effort to minutes. Built a script with Python and SQL to identify customers that were overprovisioned and made corrections, improving ARR.

● Left HackerRank to take a "sabbatical" before pursing a new opportunities.

Jan, 2014 - Dec, 2019
Founder & CEO - Mimir (acquired)

● Left Purdue University to build Mimir Classroom, a platform to support and run high school and college-level computer science courses. Raised millions over three rounds of funding and grew to support hundreds of schools with our core product. Built a reputation among investors for being capital efficient. At our peak, a majority of U.S. CS graduates used Mimir in at least one of their courses. Expanded internationally and supported CS programs in over a dozen countries.

● Wrote code to build the product until 2016 before shifting into running product, sales, and marketing. Personally sold $300,000 of ARR before hiring initial sales and marketing team members. Continued leading day-to-day product and driving sales and marketing strategy.

I had the privilege of meeting Prahasith during the early stages of our startups, Mimir, acquired by HackerRank and Socio, acquired by Cisco, and his journey from dropping out of Purdue to Y Combinator and building a world class team with an exceptional culture left its mark on me.

What sets Prahasith apart as an operator / executive is his unique ability to blend both "product" and "go-to-market" expertise. Prahasith and the Mimir team, who eventually achieved a successful acquisition by Hackerrank, navigated the startup rollercoaster like very few can and do. I'm grateful for his influence on my journey, and I recommend him to anyone seeking a visionary leader and entrepreneur in their team.

- Yarkin Sakucoglu, GM Cisco, Former CEO and Founder Socio

This guy had my back on a global, R&D-wide project. I'd trust him with my open laptop. How many engineers would say that about their PM?

Really though, for the short time we were together, I appreciated his attention to detail and how thoughtful, and most importantly, how complete, his product requirements were. Highly recommend; would work with him again.

- Rachel Tsai, Frontend Developer II HackerRank

Prahasith has been a great colleague and mentor to me for over 10 years in the industry. At my first company we would have long discussions about product decisions and sales growth as we were both working to get our products off the ground. After Prah sold his company to HackerRank he continued to make introductions for me and advise me on business strategy. Prahasith is an extremely conscientious person and any team would be bolstered with him on it.

- Everett Berry, Head of Growth Vantage, Former CEO Perceive

I was fortunate to work with Prah for close to 3 years together at HackerRank, following the acquisition of his company. Our highlight together was partnering to lead a virtual career fair event, hosting dozens of customers and thousands of students from across the globe. Throughout the planning and implementation, Prah was a constant professional, helping think through the logistics of the event, coordinating with stakeholders and vendors, and made himself available to our Customer Success team for guidance, literally any time of day. We (and our customers) saw some great results from the two annual events, and couldn't have done it without Prah's leadership.

Prah's drive to improve the platform and experience for not only customers, but also our own employees was truly appreciated. His approach to leading a project, product, and team were always to communicate clearly and treat everyone with respect. He consistently dedicated significants amount of time to examine situations from multiple angles and get a true sense of the challenge at hand, which in turn gave us the opportunity to create solutions that would be beneficial to all. I look forward to everything Prah will continue to accomplish in his career, and hope that one day our paths will cross again.

- Bob Masuda, Director of Customer Success Litmos, Former Sr. Customer Success Manager HackerRank

I have had the pleasure of working with Prah for nearly five years and can confidently say that he is a dedicated professional, a servant leader that knows software product development and leading agile teams.

Prah’s has a unique ability to get the best out of those he leads with his positive attitude and great communication while maintaining high quality work. I have no doubt that Prah will continue to excel in his future endeavors and highly recommend him.
